Sharing My Family’s Block Schedule During Quarantine!

Hello my beautiful friends! Is it just me, or do these weeks in between my blog posts feel longer, and longer?!! I miss you all throughout the week, and I'm praying each of you and your families are well! Just to give a little reminder, Thursday’s blog posts have morphed into Thursday’s YouTube videos which you can watch and subscribe to here! We’ve been having a blast, and I’ve loved interacting with you all in the comments section!

It seems like so much has happened in a week, regarding COVID-19. With schools being shut down, and parents being sent to work from home, there’s an overwhelming disrupt in the routine of many families! Although I believe this unfortunate season will ultimately bring everyone closer together, I’m still on a mission to make your day more cool, calm, and collected!! Thankfully, my schedule hasn’t been disrupted throughout this virus, aside from no more trips to Target, the library, or the mall. Today, I want to share MY family's block schedule in hopes of helping you shape and create YOUR own!

What type of schedule does my family use?

My whole family thrives on routines, but we aren't a strict “routine family” down to the minute! We operate on a flexible time blocking schedule. Instead of doing things at the exact same time everyday without fail, we have windows of time blocked out where a certain number of tasks get accomplished. I find this approach works best for our family because it creates a more realistic, less stressful approach to scheduling out our days!

How to make a block schedule?

  1. Start by writing down, in order, all of your family's time sensitive priorities. (For instance, you have to walk the dog everyday at 9am. Everyday at 10am your child has ballet class.)

  2. Next, write down all of your family’s essential priorities that need to get done from beginning to the end of the day. (Ex. feeding the kid’s breakfast, getting dressed, watering plants, etc.) Although these priorities don’t have an exact time to be done, they have a window of time that fits them best. (You won’t be eating breakfast at 1pm...haha, at least I hope not?? So, naturally you would put “eat breakfast” in the earlier time block of the day!)

  3. Now that you've written down your time sensitive priorities and essential priorities, you can fill in everything else in between, and then establish the window of time that fits these best. (These are additional things you’d like to get done, but your world will not fall apart if they don’t get done.)

  4. Lastly, be sure to time-block free time and breaks so that in the event your block schedule overflows, you have a designated block where you can play “catch up.”

My Daily Block Schedule

7:30am-10am Nurse daughter, brush teeth, quick bedroom pickup, kid’s breakfast, son independent play time, speed clean living space

10am-1pm Dress kids, kids eat lunch, daughter naps, son watch a show/does a craft, son early homeschool, mama eats, mama get dressed for the day (sometimes lol), home project

1pm-4pm Son naps, daughter eats snack/independent play, daughter reading time with mama, mama break time, prep dinner

4pm-6pm Outdoor family time in nature, free time

6pm-7pm Dinner for kids (mama eats later with papa), pajamas, bath (as needed), brush teeth, give vitamins and probiotics

7pm-7:15pm Kid’s bedtime

7:15pm-12am Speed clean kitchen and living space, cook dinner for hubby, shower, sacred time with hubby, watch a show, relax, blog, edit, go to sleep

I hope you find this system of time block scheduling helpful as my family does! Remember, everyone’s schedule will be different, especially on any given day, and that is the beauty and fun of it all! The time blocks remain the same, but the activities change daily depending on what needs to get done! While structure is good, it should never get in the way of spontaneity and fun as a family! Did you find this blog post helpful? Do we have similar schedules? Thinking of you all during this time. I'll see you in the comments below! Stay scheduled, everyone!
