Creating My Home Birth Affirmation Wall for Baby #5!

Creating My Home Birth Affirmation Wall for Baby #5!

Hi there, friends! Today, I'm sharing the finished product of my birth affirmation wall for my fifth unmedicated birth, and my first INTENTIONAL home birth. My goal was to create a designated space filled with Scripture and encouragement to focus on throughout my labor and birth. I even got my children involved, (which was the sweetest idea), for an extra personal touch from my four tiny previous blessings! To find a FULL list of all of my birth affirmations and Scripture verses, you can find them in my blog post HERE. Hope you enjoy :)

As I approach the last few weeks of my pregnancy, it was finally time to get my home birth plan in gear! Although I’ve had four unmedicated births, three of them JUST made it to the hospital as intended, and one…well, one did NOT. (My last birth was an accidental HOME BIRTH, and I should probably mention it was an HOUR labor from start to finish in our full time RV! If you watch that birth story HERE, then you’ll know I went into a panic as baby blasted past my plans, and into this world!)

This time around, I really long for a PEACEFUL and PREPARED birth at home. I want my body to be reminded that it no longer needs to rush to the hospital, or feel anxiety for my mom to arrive from out of town so we can sprint out only to make it to the hospital just in time.

Affirmations and Scripture verses are wonderful resources to meditate on during birth. In fact, I’ve used all of these in my four previous unmedicated births! However, this is the first time I’ve had them hung for me to reflect on during my birth. I believe this will be even more helpful and aesthetically pleasing than reading them off my phone during labor!

First, I chose 12 mantras to repeat over and over, as well as 8 Bible verses. I simply wrote the mantras out on the back of index cards, and hung them with some fancy washi tape I had lying around!

I used watercolor paint and paper for the Scripture verses, and had my children create something special for mommy! (Having four young children, I didn’t expect any “Michelangelo” level artworks, but what I did get was so much sweeter.) My 6 year old drew me a picture of the new baby driving a car with the encouraging words, “Keep going, mama!” Cue the TEARS! My 5 year old drew a picture of us and a lovely flower design! She’s the sweetest! My 3 year old drew a picture of himself and the new baby. He loves baby so much already! Lastly, my almost 2 year old scribbled up a delightful abundance of chicken scratch, and we traced her handprint over top. Not sure if little girl knows what’s coming, haha! Writing encouraging Scripture boldly over each picture with permanent marker really enhanced these already darling keepsakes!

Next, I browsed on Pinterest for some “painting inspo” to watercolor myself, and added more Scripture over top. The final product has helped me feel so “put together” and “focused” for when labor starts. It’s such a relief that I won’t be headed to my phone to read off my screen, but can visually reflect on my birth affirmation wall, and have my faith-based birth music playlist in the background. If you’d like to read about that next, please let me know in the comments below!

Thank you so much for reading all about how I created my birth affirmation wall! I hope it encourages you to surround yourself physically with Scripture and reminders to keep you strong throughout your labor too. I truly believe it will make a huge difference! Happy Birthing!

Cool, Mom, and Collectedly Yours,
